For a little taste of France, visit the delightful town of
Franschhoek. The area was settled 300 years ago by French
Huguenots, who left their unmistakable stamp on the town's food
and wine culture. Nestles between the towering peaks of the Cape
winelands, every year in July these strong French roots are
celebrated with the Bastille Festival. Their Huguenot Heritage
is honored today by the monument that stands at the top of the
village. Most of the farms and vineyards in and around
Franschhoek still have French names today. Other dairy highlights are the Champagne and National Cheese Festivals. Franschhoek is also home to some of the country's best restaurants, along with bistros, cafés, interesting shops, galleries, excellent accommodation and first rate conference facilities.
